    Good matcha, without the fuss.

Nekoki is a French company born from a simple idea: exceptional matcha doesn't need folklore to be understood. No jargon, no intimidating ceremony, no miracle promises. A first harvest leaf, finely ground, and the right gesture to prepare it. The rest is just fuss.

    Where our matcha comes from

Our matchas are organically grown in Japan, in two regions we've chosen for what they do best: Aichi Prefecture — and its historic cradle of Nishio — for our Latte and Ceremonial grades, and Kagoshima Prefecture, in the south, for our Reserve. Only from the first harvest, the spring harvest, when the leaf concentrates the best.

Packaging is carried out in the European Union by our certified organic partner, and each batch is traceable from the farm to your box. The details — certificates, origins, regions — are published on our Transparency & Certificates page.

To understand what distinguishes one region from another, our article Matcha Regions in Japan details what terroir truly changes.

    How we select

Matcha is not chosen by price or region name. It is chosen by tasting, based on three criteria that can be checked bowl after bowl.

The color. Bright green, almost saturated. This is a sign of a well-shaded first harvest. A khaki or yellowish tint indicates a late harvest or shortened shading.

The aromatic profile. A vegetal roundness on the attack, a present but secondary bitterness, a length that lingers after the sip. No rough, astringent dryness.

The grind. Fine, uniform, slightly adherent to the touch. Ground with a stone mill, never industrially.

Each batch goes through a tasting session before validation. This topic is expanded upon in Ceremonial or Culinary Matcha.

    Our certifications

Nekoki is operated by SASU AICHIMY STUDIO, registered with the Agence Bio under number 307 849 and certified by Ecocert France, code FR-BIO-01.

In concrete terms, this means that an independent body annually inspects our site, our procedures, our traceability, and the organic origin of our raw materials. This certification is publicly verifiable — links and documents are available on the Transparency & Certificates page.

The topic of organic and mandatory mentions is explained in detail in Organic Matcha: How to Check if It's Really Organic.

    Our commitments

30 g format. This is the right dosage for daily use for four to six weeks — the optimal time before an opened matcha loses its qualities. No large, discounted formats that end up dull.

Opaque and airtight packaging. The four enemies of matcha are light, oxygen, heat, and humidity. Each of our packages is designed to keep them at bay until opening. This topic is covered in Storing Your Matcha.

Transparency on each batch. Batch number, packaging date, precise origin. Nothing unclear.

    The cat

Our emblem is a sitting cat, drawn with a single stroke, with green whiskers — a nod to Japanese hanko seals and a certain idea of home: calm, precise, a little playful. "Neko" is Japanese for cat. The rest of the name is our story.

    What we promise you

Three things, no more: origin (Japan, verifiable), quality (first harvest, grades selected by tasting), and honesty (nothing on our labels or on this site that hasn't been verified). If we can't uphold one of these three things, we won't sell the product.
